105. Trust (b) / הבטחה
The test of those who truly trust Hashem with their whole heart is they would not set aside the will of Hashem when they wish something else for themselves. Those who fulfill the will of their Maker and put their own affairs aside in their trust of God — is it conceivable that they would thereby lose their livelihood or that their bounty would diminish? Heaven forefend! It is unthinkable! On the contrary, a person who relies on his own industriousness and extra efforts, or one who relies on another person, is placed by Heaven into the hands of the one he trusts. And even if one’s mazel is in his favor or if the person is given his reward for some mitzvah in this world (when he lack the merit to receive it in the World to Come) — in the end, the wheels will be turned and he will lose his wealth, declining drastically as commonly happens every day. Or, his wealth will be preserved for his detriment, to banish him eternally.
But one who trusts Hashem, kindness surrounds him. Even if at first his beginning is insignificant and he will live a live privation, one dare not think that it happened to the person because he was a servant of God. Rather, it was because Hashem tests the righteous and He has many plans. Honor will surely come.
