Parents must give care to their young children, to make sure that they are not hungry. The Zohar even permits certain things which are generally forbidden in order to avoid causing pain to a baby. Those ladies who leave their children to cry for a long time until they finish their own affairs, will pay for it.
From the time that he is born, his parents must give thought to bring him up to learn Torah and perform the service of Hashem. When the father learns, he should learn next to the child, so that his ears are used to listening to Torah. We see this is the statement of Chazal concerning Rabbi Yehoshua ben Korcha, when they said, “fortunate is she who bore him!”, and Rashi explains that his mother caused him to become a Talmid Chacham, because she used to bring his crib to the Beis Hamidrash so that he could hear the words of Torah. One should do any other similar things which one is able to do, so that the child will be healthy and strong, and strengthen himself in Torah.
