214. Trials (1)

There are many forms of trials, all of which are beloved and cherished, for if a person would live all his years peacefully, he would have no atonement for his sins. Trials erase the sins of a person. However, this only succeeds when one accepts the trials with love, knowing the tremendous purpose in them, for they atone for his sins. There is an even bigger achievement for they clean out and purify that which he had damaged up above and by doing this he creates great pleasure for his Creator. Therefore, a person who is afraid of the sins which he has committed, and his life is cramped and bitter because of the damage he has caused up above, for such a man all trials will be easy and sweet, in order to repair that which he had twisted and to purify that which he had tainted. This is true because he loves his Creator, and especially when he will recognize the real truth, that this entire world with its good and bad are complete emptiness, like a passing shadow, and that one hour of enjoyment in the world to come is worth more than all of life in this world.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
