215. Trials (2)

There are many different types of trials which come to a person from heaven. Some are more difficult than others. All of these trials repay a person for what he did whether he likes it or not. Seeing that in any event a person has to bear the trials which come to him, even if he does not want them, it is good for a man to lift the burden, and not to be disgusted by reprimands, and he should accept them lovingly, happily and contentedly, for it is a very high level to be able to be happy with trials and accept them with love.

Whatever happens whenever a form of pain happens to him he should accustom himself to say “This too is for the good!”, and he should not be like a fool who gets upset and angry, and if they fall or stumble they say blasphemy and curses. Such people suffer doubly, for they receive the trials themselves and also increase their sins with these inappropriate words. However, one who accepts his trials goodheartedly, will end up with good, for everything which appears bad to a person, Hashem has intended it to be good, just we do not always see this with our own eyes, as Chazal said that once upon a time a person found a thorn in his foot and was therefore unable to voyage with the ship. He started to curse the day and in the end the ship foundered and he started to sing. It is known that even a small amount of trials which a person bears in this world, removes much trials which would otherwise have come upon him in the next world.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
