One must be especially careful to fulfil any commandment which involves financial loss, and be vigilant about any sin which involves possible financial loss, for the evil inclination strengthens itself against a person in those commandments which involve financial loss and gain. This is especially true in these generations, where everything is defined by money, that a person’s real character can be seen by his financial affairs, and he should make sure that money is not even a consideration when there is a question of a possible hint of sin, for it is better that a person should die of hunger, rather than being considered a wicked man before Hashem even for one hour.
One who loves Hashem in the correct way, will give all the wealth of his house for the love of Hashem, as it says “And you shall love Hashem your G-d with all of your money!”. One who does this is a clever and sharp businessman, and is considered like one who has managed to buy a very expensive pearl for one Perutah (the smallest denomination of coin), so too for money which is abhorrent he has acquired Torah and life in the next world. Apart from this, even in this world he receives reward and money, and those who seek Hashem never lack goodness.
