398. Chasing (1)

It says in Mishlei “One who chases after righteousness and kindness will find life!”. The idea of “chasing” which is mentioned here that is even if the good deed is “fleeing” from him he runs after it to fulfil it. An example of this is one who wants to give charity to one who needs it and the other does not want to accept it the donor must run after him to give him charity without his knowledge. One way of doing this is to sell him things cheaply or to put money down in a place where the recipient will pass by and find them or to place money in the recipient’s pocket without his knowledge or to give his household members the household necessities etc. The main type of charity is with such a person where we need to reflect and ponder how to contrive to help him as it says “Fortunate is one who reflects for the poor!”.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
