427. sleep(1)

Chazal said that “Sleep in the morning removes a person from the world” and it is a tremendous pity and waste that there are many people who occupy themselves with their work at the beginning of the night or they occupy themselves with merriment and empty amusements and they then sleep in in the morning until the times for reading the Shema and praying have passed and when they finally arise from their sleep they are in a big hurry to go to work and after the time allotted for the Shema and prayer they pray a shortened and snatched prayer and they only bother coming to the synagogue on Shabbos or maybe for part of the prayers on Monday and Thursday.

The Chida has already written “Trembling has taken hold of me when I see how lenient people have become about the issue of praying privately (without a quorum) and even after the final time to recite the Shema as Chazal said that a person like this deserves excommunication. They said in the Midrash that one who “cancels” the listening to Kaddish and Kedushah deserves excommunication. Chazal both in the Talmud and the holy Zohar discuss extensively the tremendous merit of praying with a quorum. If even once that he does not say these things it is considered so bad, how much more so one who does it regularly that it is both bad and bitter. Behold nowadays because of our great sins almost all of our Judaism and our service to Hashem comes through these three prayers and if we omit and denigrate even these things what are we and our lives worth?

A man who is a member of Klal Yisrael and believes in the words of the Torah and Chazal will have pity on his own soul and on the honor of his Creator and will not commit spiritual suicide and while his eyes are still open and before the bad times when regret will not help arrive he will regret his bad deeds and abandon his bad ways and go in good ways and then he will repent and be spiritually healed.

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
