485. Psalms (2)

A person who has not been gifted by G-d with knowledge to study Torah, or who has not got a book with him to study apart from the book of Psalms, should not weary from repeating the songs of Psalms even many times a day. He should not sit and waste time for our Sages have said that even if a person reads, repeats and reads the same verse “and the sister of Lotan was Timna” all day, he receives rewards as though he was busy with Nega’im and Ohalos. One who has no book to hand when sitting in a shop or travelling, can study the songs of Psalms which are familiar and fluent to his tongue, or Mishnayos which are familiar and fluent to his tongue.  He should repeat them even a thousand times and he will receive a good reward. This matter is sweet before G-d as though he was busy with Nega’im and Ohalos which are the most difficult chapters in Gemara.  In truth do they say “There is no difference between one who does more and one who does less as long as they direct their hearts to Heaven.”

“My brothers and my nation, take this sefer Torah, and with this, and like this learn well, so that you should have it good; listen and enliven your soul, and achieve gladness and joy in this world and the world to come” (From the author’s intro.)
