60 – The Laws of Paying Wages / Chapter Ten

L. A person who knows clearly that he will not have money to pay on time should not hire a worker in the first place, because the worker expects to be paid on time. He may hire the worker if he informs the worker in advance that he will not pay him immediately (on time), or if the local custom is to pay workers on a certain day, such as market-day, when he will have the necessary funds.

If one hires a worker for a certain period, and the employer will be traveling during that period and will not be at home when the job will be completed, he must prepare the money before his trip, so that the worker will be paid on time.

He has told you, O Man, what is good, and what Hashem asks of you; but to do justice, to love loving-kindness, and to walk discreetly with your G-d” (Micha 6:8)
