Articles and Letters / ‘Torah Supporters’ – 148

Our Sages taught, ‘Hashem will make a canopy for people who do mitzvas with Torah scholars in Gan Eden, as it states, ‘For in the shade of the wisdom is the shade of the silver’’. Similarly, we find regarding the rings of the Holy Ark that it says, ‘In the rings of the ark will be the poles, they will not be removed’. Someone who removes the poles of the Torah ark gets corporal punishment. Although the ark stays in the Holy of Holies, the poles need to stay in its rings because after carrying the ark once, they become an integral part of it. Similarly, those who support Torah cannot be removed from the Torah itself, and in the next world they will be integrally connected.

A person should carefully consider the tradeoff between money spent on eternity and money spent on momentary gratification, as one moment in the next world is so much better than this whole world.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
