Chomas Hadas, Ch. 10 – 51

As explained above, even if the Torah was in the sky, we would need to find ways to reach it, even means beyond nature. The reason the Torah is so essential is that as long as a person is alive, he must realize that his years are numbered, and since most people’s lives are not a bed of roses, there must be some other point to life. Therefore a person must search ways to prepare himself for the next world, and this is done with Torah that will give his body sustenance in the grave until the time comes for it to come back to life. Our Sages learned from the verse, ‘for the dew of light is your dew’, that only those who are connected to Torah will come back to life. And even those who didn’t learn, but supported Torah and cherished it, will be sufficiently connected to the Torah to come back to life when the time comes.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
