Chomas Hadas, Ch. 10 – 53

A person should know that he needs Hashem’s grace and protection not only in this world but in the next world as well:

  1. When in the grave he needs protection lest evil spirits harm him, as it says, ‘and when you lie down [the Torah] will protect you’, referring to the grave.
  2. To protect him from Gehinom, and the Torah protects him from that, as it says in the Zohar, that even Torah learnt with ulterior motives saves a person from Gehinom.
  3. To live in the next world, as the Torah sustains him there.
  4. To go from level to level in the world to come.

All this happens as a result of the Torah he learned that acclaims his virtue constantly.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
