Chomas Hadas, Ch. 10 – 54

As explained above, the Torah is constantly commending and endorsing those who learn it, as our Sages explained the verse, ‘[the Torah] does good for him and not bad all her life’. The verse does not say all his life, but all her [the Torah’s] life, implying that after his death the Torah will continue to have a positive effect on him eternally, and a person needs these favors very much. A person who realizes these things will understand how dependent he will be on his Torah learning in this world.

And that is why when we finish a maseches we say ‘hadran alach, hadrach alan, da’atan alach ve da’atach alan (we will stay with you and you stay with us, we think of you and you think of us). We beseech the Torah to continually speak up for us and not forsake us in this world and the next.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
