Chomas Hadas / Ch. 14 – 99

The disciples of Rabbi Eliezer the Great asked him, what should a person do to be spared the tribulations of the final redemption? He answered them, he should be involved in Torah and kind deeds. This is how we got out of Egypt, for before the redemption the Jews got together and strengthened themselves in the service of Hashem and kindness to each other, and although they did not receive the Torah yet, they learned the few mitzvas that they had. This learning facilitated the redemption tremendously, and this is what we should do in our days, to strengthen each other in Torah and kindness, and through these two our sins will be forgiven, as it states, ‘With kindness and truth iniquity will be absolved’, and ‘truth’ is referring to Torah.  May we merit to hasten our redemption through these two avenues.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
