Derech Hashem, Part 4, Ch. 2 – 43

Torah learning is essential to Man, as without it one cannot perform mitzvas, for if one knows not what to do, how can he do it? But beyond this, there is an inherent goal in the learning itself that enables a person to reach his perfection. Of all the blessings Hashem bestowed on man, there is one supreme blessing, almost a reflection of His existence that imparts honor and glory to all creatures, and Hashem connected this blessing to a special creation designed for this purpose, and that is the Torah.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
