Hilchos Yichud-Seclusion / ‘Chaperon’ (i) – 29

  1. A specially appointed ‘chaperon’ (such as a neighbor) who was asked to enter another dwelling from time to time, is only effective until the time at night that people usually go to sleep. After that hour, two chaperons are needed. (Shulchan Aruch, Even HaEzer 22:2)
  2. When appointing this type of special chaperon, attention must be given to ensure that the he (shomer) or she (shomeres) does not transgress yichud themselves. Rather, the arrangement must be such that when he or she enters there will not be a forbidden yichud setting according to all the rules presented above.
