Hilchos Yichud-Seclusion / the essence of the prohibition – 3

  1. Yichud is defined as: “The presence of a man and woman together in a secluded area where a stranger is not likely to disturb them.” This includes places such as a closed room, empty park, a car on a desolate road at night, or any other similar situation.

  1. The prohibition rests equally on both the man and the woman. Therefore, even if one of them is not aware that he or she is in a forbidden place [such as he or she does not know that the door is locked], the other person is nevertheless obligated to refrain from the yichud situation.
