כ״ד בכסלו ה׳תש״פ
- A person is obligated to honor his father’s wife, even if she is not his mother [i.e., a stepmother], as long as his father is alive. Likewise, a person is obligated to honor his mother’s husband, as long as she is alive. But once the person’s mother or father pass away, he is not obligated to honor their spouse. It is nevertheless proper to honor one’s stepparents even after one’s parent passes away (Shulchan Aruch, YD 240:21).
2. One is obligated to honor his eldest brother, whether he is a brother through the father or through the same mother (ibid. 240:22).
