- It is proper for a Torah scholar [or elder] that he not trouble the public and cause them to have to stand up for him. Instead, he should take the shortest possible route, and, if possible, he should take a detour so that he will not appear before them at all. This is a great merit for the scholar or elder(Shulchan Aruch, YD 244:7).
2. One is obligated to rise before a blind Torah scholar or elder even though the scholar will not see that they are honoring him. (Aruch Hashulchan 244:7).
