Introduction – 8
Hashem, bound through His great love to us, distanced us from all negative behavior, particularly lashon hara and rechilus, as these sins cause strife between mankind and can also lead to murder. One who speaks lashon hara has a part in the destruction of the world. This can be seen throughout history. The main reason we were exiled to Egypt was a result of Yosef telling on his brothers to his father, this caused his brothers to sell him as a slave. Even though he was permitted to do what he did, it was still a cause of his slavery. In addition to this, the reason for our exile is as a result of the sin of the spies. They spoke badly about the land of Israel, which brought forth a decree of mourning on the Jews, throughout the generations, every year on the 9th day of Av.
