Introduction / Negative Commandments (16)

  1. One who speaks lashon hara in the presence of another in a way that causes him not only hurt but humiliation, has transgressed the prohibition, Do not bear a sin because of him, which is a warning not to embarrasses a fellow Jew even whilst rebuking him for a sin he has committed]. If one embarrasses his fellow in public, he has no portion in the World to Come.

15. One who commits this sin against an orphan or widower, not withstanding their financial status, has transgressed an additional prohibition of, A widower and orphan you shall not afflict.

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
