- One who is reciting a blessing on a fruit should not insert a knife into it, even if he holds the knife with his right hand (Mishnah Berurah206:18). Some say that one should not hold the food with any metal utensil while reciting the blessing, not even with a fork, but with one’s hand or with a silver utensil (Kaf HaChaim).
2. A food item that is ordinarily held with one’s hand should specifically be held in hand while reciting the blessing, and not with any utensil nor even while wearing gloves. (ibid.)
