Laws of Blessings – 35

  1. One who is reciting a blessing on a fruit should not insert a knife into it, even if he holds the knife with his right hand (Mishnah Berurah206:18). Some say that one should not hold the food with any metal utensil while reciting the blessing, not even with a fork, but with one’s hand or with a silver utensil (Kaf HaChaim).

2.     A food item that is ordinarily held with one’s hand should specifically be held in hand while reciting the blessing, and not with any utensil nor even while wearing gloves. (ibid.)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
