Laws of Blessings – 48

  1. A person who ate fruit from among the Seven Species and also ordinary fruit, such as dates together with apples, recites only the Three-faceted blessing (“for the fruit” etc.) and is exempt from also reciting the blessing of Borei Nefashos, “Who creates numerous living things” for the apples, because apples are also fruit of the tree (Shulchan Aruch and Mishnah Berurah208).

2.     Other types of food cannot be exempted with the Three-faceted blessing. Therefore, a person who drank wine and ate meat recites “for the vine” and the separate after-blessing of “Who creates numerous living things.” Similarly, a person who ate meat and grain products [such as cake] recites both Al Hamichiyah (“for the nourishment”) etc. and Borei Nefashos (ibid.).

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
