Laws of Blessings – 59

  1. One who merely chews food without swallowing any of it [such as in times past when mothers would chew the food for their babies] does not recite a blessing, even if a large amount of food was chewed (Shulchan Aruch;Mishnah Berurahand Kaf HaChaim 210).

2.     The reason why one does not recite a blessing for tasting food [as discussed above], despite the fact that we are forbidden to take enjoyment from this world without reciting a blessing, is that the obligation to recite blessings over foods was only instituted for situations when the person will be [having the full enjoyment of] consuming the food, not merely tasting it (ibid.).

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
