Laws of Lashon Hara / 10: 11-12 (78)

  1. One is forbidden to speak lashon hara about one who has committed a wrongdoing against the speaker himself, even when telling the truth and even when all the above conditions are met. This is so, because it is inconceivable that one’s intentions are entirely pure.

12. How much more so if one’s fellow didn’t cause him harm but only refused to help him, for example, he refused to lend him money, it is undoubtedly forbidden to tell others. How much more so is one forbidden to tell about a whole city that refused to help him, this is considered a more severe form of lashon hara.

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
