Laws of Lashon Hara / 8: 10-11 (67)

  1. The prohibition to speak lashon hara applies both when speaking to strangers and when speaking to relatives. So too, it is forbidden to speak lashon hara to one’s spouse unless it is for a constructive purpose, for example, to caution them from interacting with a certain individual.

11. It is forbidden to speak lashon hara even to a relative of the subject, unless the subject needs to be rebuked and he is unable to do so and the relative is in a position to do so.

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
