Letters of the Chafetz Chaim – 124

Our Sages said, ‘Whoever accepts the yoke of Torah has the yoke of livelihood and government removed from him’, and since they didn’t say ‘whoever learns Torah’, but rather ‘whoever accepts the yoke of Torah’, we see that it is not enough to learn Torah, one has to commit himself completely to it and not leave it for anything, like an ox plowing a field. If he does this, even if he has the yoke of livelihood or heavy taxes on him, they will be removed from him, and surely Hashem will cause no more to be put on him.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
