Letters of the Chafetz Chaim / Letter 18 – 64

We ask Hashem daily to expedite the final redemption, and the delay is clearly not for lack of His ability to do so, so we must ask ourselves, what it is it that we are all waiting for? The answer is that Hashem delays it for our good, to give us more time to prepare for it, lest it come, and we be sorely lacking in Torah and mitzvas. So we each need to utilize the time left to fill ourselves with Torah learning, for without it we will be too embarrassed to welcome Mashiach when he finally comes. Whoever can do anything to increase Torah learning and fails to do so, should know full well that he is causing the delay of Hashem’s final revelation.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
