חיפוש בארכיון

Mitzvah 428) not to benefit from the covering of idols or from the things which serve them.

Parshas Ekev

“You shall not desire the silver and gold which is upon them, and you shall (not) take it for yourself” (Devarim 7,25)

It is a negative commandment, not to benefit from the covering of idols, even in a case where the idol itself is not forbidden for benefit, like one who bows down to an object in whose creation no person was involved like a mountain or an animal or a tree, which are not forbidden for benefit, but the covering which is upon them is nonetheless forbidden for pleasure for it is included in the tools of idols which are forbidden, and concerning this it says “You shall not desire the silver and gold which is upon them, and you shall (not) take it for yourself”

Of the roots of this commandment, to distance any idea of idol worship and anything which is subservient to it.

This commandment applies in every place, at every time, to men and women and one who transgresses it and benefits from their coverings, even in a small measure, receives the penalty of lashings.
