חיפוש בארכיון

Preface – 6

Now it will be explained how the entire Torah is full of matters of kindness so that we may learn from it how precious is the trait of kindness before the Holy One.

First of all is what is stated in the Torah portion of Bereishis (2:22): Hashem God fashioned the side that He had taken from the man into a woman, and He brought her to the man. Our Sages expound from this verse that the Holy One braided Chava’s  hair and then brought her to Adam, and they similarly expounded that He made the wedding arrangements for Adam, the first man (see Berachos 61a).

Similarly, in the portion of Noach we find that Shem and Yafes acted with kindness towards their father and they covered his disgrace—though there was no Divine commandment that they do so. But nevertheless, the blessing that their father gave them was fulfilled, to teach us how great and important is the trait of kindness.
