Shem Olam / Ch. 10 – 107

Every day we ask Hashem, ‘enlighten our eyes with your Torah’, that we should learn the whole Torah and remember it in the next world, so we won’t be utterly embarrassed when asked, ‘stand up and display what you read and what you learned’. A person should know that the humiliation will not be momentary, but will last forever and ever, and every time something is learned that he did not learn in his lifetime it will increase his shame more. So we ask that Hashem should teach us all the Torah in this world so we will not suffer forever in the next.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
