Situations: 4-5 (115)

  1. It is permitted to tell a prospective father-in-law about a serious flaw that the groom has, if he is not aware of it, and it is clear that if he did know, he would not go ahead with the match. This is so only under the conditions written hereafter.

5. If the groom is not clever or very sharp, it is not considered a flaw, and one is forbidden to relate this. So too, one is forbidden to relate the wrongdoings of a prospect’s ancestors.

“Who is the man who desires life… guard your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceitfully” (Tehillim 34:13-14)
