י׳ בשבט ה׳תשפ״ב
Situations: j-k – 128
- It is permitted to tell a groom about a hidden medical condition that his bride is effected with, when all the conditions are met [A. He is certain of the problem. B. He must not exaggerate. C. His intention is for a constructive purpose. D. There is no other way to effect a solution. G. The report will not cause the subject any harm, which is not sanctioned by Torah law]. If he is not certain of the problem, he may tell the groom, only if he assumes that he’ll look into the matter, and not immediately cancel the match.
- It is permitted to tell a groom that in the home of his bride, they do not act in a modest way, even when the conditions are not met. If he does not know this firsthand, he should tell the groom that the information is not firsthand, and that he should check it out.
In conclusion: A person must carefully ponder all his actions, especially in the area of speech. He should not meddle in matters between a man and his fellow, unless he is certain that the facts are accurate, he must speak for a constructive purpose and not out of hatred, and he should give thought to the result of his words – so that nothing contrary to Torah law should come about from them. In this merit God will surely assist him.
