The Laws of Charity – 4

1) Anyone who needs to take charity, and is unable to live without accepting charity, (for example an ill person, or an elderly person or one who has many trials and tribulations), who is arrogant and does not take from charity, is considered like a murderer, and had committed a crime with his soul, and together with his pain he will only have sins and iniquities. (Kitzur Shulchan Aruch 34)

2) On the other hand, anyone who needs to accept charity, but can really extend himself and not take, who puts himself in opain, and really pushes himself to live a life of pain so as not to bother other people, will not die before he has merited to sustain other people, and about him the verse says “Blessed is the man who trusts in Hashem and Hashem will be his guarantor”. (ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
