The Laws of Prayer (68)

1)    In four places in the Amidah a person needs to bow down: at the beginning and end of both the first blessing and the blessing of Modim. If a person wants to bow down at the beginning or end of one of the other blessings, we teach him not to do it, so that they will not come to uproot the rabbinical decree, so that people will not say that anyone can bow down whenever they want. It is also considered to be arrogant. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 113)

2)    However, one may bow down in the middle of the other blessings, as Chazal did not decree any bowings in the middle of blessings. (ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
