The Laws of Prayer/Blessings (10)

1) After the blessing on the Torah one should make sure to learn something, so that the blessing can take effect on something (although it is true that there are opinions who maintain that even if he did not learn the blessing still takes effect, one should be stringent and learn immediately). It follows that if one forgot to learn immediately afterwards, he should intend to fulfil his obligation to make the blessing by using “Ahavah Rabbah” or “Ahavas Olam”, and learn immediately after the prayers. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 47)

2) Many have the custom to read the three verses of the priestly blessing, which contain blessing. Others add the Mishnah of “These are the things which have no obligatory amount”, and the Gemarah of “These are the things for which one receives some reward in this world…” in order to have already learned some Torah, Mishnah and Gemarah. (ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
