The Laws of Prayer (The morning services) (28)

1)    Before commencing the prayers, one should look out of the window heavenwards, to humble his heart. However, during the prayer one should not conduct oneself like those who raise their heads and eyes upwards as if they are looking at the roof. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 95)

2)    One should close one’s eyes when saying the Amidah. One who does not do this will not merit to see the Divine Presence when he is dying. However, it is permitted to open one; eyes to look in a prayer-book. (ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
