The Laws of Prayer (The morning services) (32)

1)    One may not kiss one’s young sons in the synagogue. This is in order to fix in one’s heart that there is no love like the love for Hashem. (Shulchan Aruch and Mishne Berurah 98)

2)    One should not bring young children to the synagogue, as they play there and profane the holiness of the place, and disturb the concentration of the people praying. If they become used to behaving like this in the synagogue, even when they become older and more mature they will not leave their bad custom. However, once they reach the age of being able to be educated one would bring them to the synagogue and teach them to sit and pray with fear and awe and to respond Amen and the correct responses to Kaddish and Kedushah. (ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
