The Laws of The Beginning of the Month/ Adding on to meals (12)

1)    If Rosh Chodesh falls on a regular weekday, he should prepare more food than he is generally accustomed to eat on a weekday. If Rosh Chodesh falls on Shabbos, he should prepare more food than his normal custom for that Shabbos. (Ben Ish Chai Sh”Sh Vayikra 10). It suffices for a person to increase the meal of the day and there is no necessity to also increase that of the night. (Mishne Berurah 419)

2)    It is correct to eat bread for the honor of the meal of Rosh Chodesh. (ibid) One who is unable to afford to add a special food for Rosh Chodesh should at least buy a fruit to eat for the occasion. (Ben Ish Chai ibid)

The wise man says: I shall learn two halachot today, and two tomorrow, until I learn the entire Torah entirely… (Vayikra Rabba)
