The Laws of the fifteenth of Av

1)    A continuation of the list of happy things which took place on the fifteenth of Av: 3) In the story of “Pilegesh Begiv’ah”, in the time of the judges, Klal Yisrael swore not to allow their daughters to marry into the tribe of Binyomin, and this tribe almost became extinct, and on this day they found a way to allow them to marry. (Levush 580)

2)     4) After the destruction of the second temple, when the town of Beitar was destroyed, the enemies killed many Jews and refused to allow them to be buried. After many years had passed, they were allowed to be buried on the fifteenth of Av. (This also led to the fixing of the blessing “Hatov vehamativ” in the Grace after meals.) Many other good things happened on this day through the generations, so they made it into a festival to the extent that one may not fast or say Tachanun. 5) On this day the nights start becoming longer and there is more time to learn at night. (ibid Meiri Ta’anis 31a)

“Moshe established for Yisrael, that they should inquire and teach the issue of the day, the halachos of Pesach on Pesach, the halachos of Atzeres on Atzeres, the halachos of chag on the chag” (Megilla 32)
