Sometimes people who don’t have so much money support Torah more than people much wealthier than they. This is like a king who appointed a general and gave him supplies for his whole division, and the General embezzled most of the funds and used only some to feed the soldiers and clothe them minimally. When the king came and saw them hungry and ragged, he was furious and fired the General, placing one of the soldiers in his stead. When he saw how well the soldier was taking care of his comrades, he further chastised the General who was paid nicely to take care of the soldiers and tried to embezzle funds, whereas the simple soldier who was paid minimally did the job better. So there are rich people who think all their money was given to them to spend on themselves, and don’t understand that they were entrusted with these funds to support Torah scholars and the needy. When they are compared to those who received less and gave more, they will be terribly ashamed with their behavior. Sometimes all their money will be taken away in their lifetime because they don’t know how to use it properly.
