Toras Habayis / Ch. 11 – 101

The verse states, ‘If you seek it like silver and search it like a treasure, then you will understand fear of Hashem and will find knowledge of G-d’. By comparing learning Torah to seeking money the verse included several things. There are people who claim they don’t learn Torah because their parents didn’t teach them. If their parents did not help them financially would they starve to death because they can’t make any money? In the same vein they should not starve spiritually to eternal death but should make the effort to find someone to teach him. The same can be said about people who say they have no one to learn with. They would not abstain from making a living just because they didn’t find the ideal partner to start a business with. They would borrow from others or join an existing company. People like this should join a learning group, and by sitting with them he will eventually understand what they are learning. If all these don’t succeed, he should support others who are learning and share their learning like Zevulun did with Yisachar.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
