Toras Habayis / Ch. 14 – 32

The need to watch every minute lest it go to waste is true for all Jews, but learned people have to be even more careful for several reasons:

1. If a person owns a factory with many workers, surely he will expect higher standards from high salaried workers whose task is delicate and valuable. A learned person can learn much more in quantity and quality in one hour than others can learn in many hours, so his responsibility is so much greater.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
