Toras Habayis / Ch. 14 – 33

[Continuation of the reasons a learned person should be extra careful not to waste time]

2. Our Sages said, ‘Since the destruction of the Temple, Hashem has no place in the world except the four amos of halacha’. In our days those four amos have become smaller and smaller, and Hashem barely has anywhere to place His blessing. Surely those who are capable of delving into halacha should do so to their utmost to cause Hashem some nachas ruach. This is the simple meaning of the verse, ‘There is time to do for Hashem, when His Torah is desecrated’- when many people are desecrating the Torah is the perfect time to invest extra effort in learning it.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
