Toras Habayis / Ch. 4 – 18

It is well known that time is a precious commodity with which a person can achieve eternal reward. The Evil Inclination knows this as well, so it initially tempts a person to get involved in too many business endeavors to distract him completely, contrary to our Sages instruction, ‘minimalize your work load and toil in Torah’. Then, lest he find some time to learn anyway, he distracts him daily with fat papers about kings and kingdoms, leaving him not one day free to contemplate his own situation.

Whoever cherishes his soul should stay far away from these things that steal his time and will thus thwart this evil scheme.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
