Toras Habayis / Ch. 6 – 23

[Continuation of why a person should learn some Torah by heart]

[Learning some Torah by heart] facilitates performing the mitzva of ‘you shall speak in them at home and when on the way’. Going to the beis midrash is not always practical, and sometimes a person is in a place where there is no light or he didn’t bring a sefer with him, but if he knows some mishnayos by heart he can utilize such times to earn tremendous reward. Also when travelling learning from a sefer is not always practical, but if he knows something by heart he can repeat it to himself again and again.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
