Toras Habayis / Ch. 7 – 30

There are those who claim that despite all the difficulties they would travel far and wide to learn Torah, if not for their wives’ objection. This claim is not justified, for if the same person knew that he would surely amass tremendous wealth by travelling to some market, even if his wife would object he would go to great length to placate her, explaining to her how rich they would become. If he would view the Torah in the same vein, surely he would not allow her to waive such great treasure for some temporary inconvenience. On the contrary, this is the main merit of Jewish women, waiting for their sons and husbands to come back from learning.

Since learning in beis hamedrash without distractions is so much more effective, one should do everything possible to schedule regular learning there, and if he does, he will surely see tremendous benefit from it.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
