Toras Habayis / Es Laasos – 135

Even though a person is obligated to learn at all times, learning on Shabbos is an extra special merit, as it is a day dedicated to Torah and service of Hashem. The Midrash says that Hashem gave paired Shabbos up with the Torah, so a person should make an extra effort to learn Torah on Shabbos.

Unfortunately, this is easier said than done, because the evil inclination keeps a person busy with mundane issues all week long to keep him away from learning Torah, and when Shabbos comes along finally, he keeps him busy with idle chatter and newspapers leaving him without Torah both on Shabbos and during the week.

“And the utterly undoubtable truth is that if the entire world, from one end to the other, would be absent of our engagement and delving into the Torah, even for one moment, literally, then all the worlds - both upper and lower - would be destroyed instantly, and would turn into utter chaos, chas v’shalom…” (Nefesh Hachaim)
