5. One who speaks lason hara, transgresses the prohibition, Beware, lest you forget Hashem, your God, which is a prohibition against acting arrogantly, as one who is arrogant assumes that he is better and smarter, and will therefore surely come to mock and ridicule his friend, and rejoice in his disgrace.
6. One who speaks or listens to lashon hara, transgresses the negative prohibition, Do not desecrate My holy Name. This sin has no physical enjoyment and it is therefore considered to be a wicked act and that of a rebel. All the more so, if the speaker is considered a person of stature or if it was done in public.
