Chapter 29
Laws Derived from Isaiah: Running, Walking, Commerce, Measuring, Reading, Speaking
SPEAKING ABOUT THINGS ONE IS FORBIDDEN TO DO ON SHABBATH AND YOM TOV
59.a. «And by not] speaking about forbidden] matters» – your conversation on Shabbath should not be the same as on other days of the week.
59.b. As a result, one should not say that, after Shabbath, one is going to do something which is forbidden on Shabbath, even if the prohibition concerned is only Rabbinical.
59.c. Thus, one may not say on Shabbath,
1) «I am going to drive into town tomorrow,»
2) «I am going to write a letter tomorrow,
3) «I shall buy those things tomorrow» or
4) «I shall collect those goods from the shop tomorrow» (when the goods in the shop are muktzeh).
59.d. 1) One may speak about an activity forbidden,
a) not by virtue of the laws of Shabbath or Yom Tov in themselves, but
b) by virtue of other considerations pertaining to a particular Shabbath or Yom Tov.
2) One may, thus, say,
a) on Yom Kippur, «I am going to eat such-and-such a food tomorrow» or
b) on Passover, «I am going to eat chametz tomorrow».
